  Collin’s Submissive

After his rescue from the hunters, Sam finds himself mated to an alpha werewolf. A wolf who makes him burn inside and out.

Sam has the special ability to help his werewolf mate control his feral side. Sam never wants to be a prisoner again. He wants to enjoy his new mate, and learn his place in a werewolf pack where not all the wolves have control.

Though Sam doesn't mind it when his new mate lets out a little of his wild side, especially in bed.

But the hunters want revenge on the wolf pack that stole their catch. When they kidnap Sam's father, he has no choice but to go and meet them on his own.

Collin spent his life searching for the one person who could help him control his wolf, and when he finds out Sam went off to meet the enemy, there will be hell to pay for those who would do his mate harm.

  Chapter One

Sam sat down across from his dad, clenching his hands on his knees, trying his best to keep from melting into an embarrassing puddle.

His dad, who’d just found out Sam was alive, was currently glaring at Collin.

Collin Gilmore, the second-in-command of the wolf pack, sat with his arms crossed, staring at the other man as though he were getting ready to accept a challenge.

  Or get into a fight.

"You think my son is your mate?"

"I know he is," Collin said, and while he didn't exactly glare back at Sam's dad, there was definitely a look in his eyes that suggested he was daring the man to challenge him.

  Sam cleared his throat.

“Collin and I talked about it before you showed up, Dad."

"And do you believe him? Did you sleep with him yet?"

  "Dad!"

Sam was a grown-ass man, but hearing his father say something like that still damn near killed him.

"I just want to know what you're working with here."

  "Dad, I'm twenty-seven."

"I don't give a shit how old you are! You went missing for almost ten days. I get a call from the school that you're not showing up to work, I think you might be dead, and then I come here and find out you're surrounded by wolves. You know why that's a bad idea."

"It's not a bad idea around here," Collin said.

Sam's dad pointed a finger right at his face. "Don't you talk to me, you son of a bitch. For all I know you had something to do with it!"

Collin stood up. So did Sam before a fight could break out.

"I'm going to take my dad outside. That's enough chatting for now."

"No. He wants to fight me then let him!"

Sam stepped in front of his dad. "Dad, seriously, I love you and everything, but you are never going to get the better of an alpha wolf. Come on. Let's go outside."

Collin didn't snap his teeth, growl, or even take a step toward Sam or his dad, but Sam could still feel how thick the air was. He could still sense how much trouble he and his old man would be in if this went any further.

Collin was probably struggling to hold back his inner wolf right now, and even though Sam was supposedly a piece of his soul, or even the full thing, Sam wasn't taking the risk that his dad got hurt because he and an alpha wolf were getting into a pissing contest.

His dad sputtered and mumbled the entire way out of the small house where Collin lived, and where Sam was currently staying, but maybe he did see the problem with picking a fight with a man nearly twice his size in muscle mass.

"You can't seriously think about staying here."

"Dad, the school fired me from my job."

"So what? Come and live with me and we'll get a lawsuit going. We'll take these bastards to task for what they did to you."

"It's not the school's fault." Sam didn't want a lawsuit. He wanted his job back. He wanted to go back to teaching, and suing the school for firing him after he didn't show up and didn't call wasn't something he could hold against them.

And even if he did win that kind of lawsuit, he knew where the money would come from. From the school itself. The kids.

And the school would take that money away from the art department. Sam's department. They'd decide to cut back on the paints, canvases, pencils, and paper before they decided to not buy new jerseys for the football team. Again.

"You should sue them. You were being held hostage for Christ's sakes, and then they give away your job."

  "I know."

"They know what happened to you now. It was all over the news."

"And by then they’d already filled my position. It's done, Dad."

A new teacher had been hired to take over for Sam when he didn't show up. If Sam came back now, he'd be putting someone else out of work.

Someone was getting screwed no matter what.

"They offered me a good reference. The principal basically promised me up and down that he would give me about a thousand gold stars to anyone who called asking about my work history."

Because he'd been scared of a lawsuit, too.

"There's a high school around here and a college with an art program less than an hour's drive away. I'll get work, Dad."

  His dad still grumbled.

The man had been protective of Sam ever since he could remember. He'd raised Sam alone after Sam's mother took off when he was just a baby. He'd had dreams of his own, and he'd put them aside. For Sam.

And what made him an even better dad was that he never once held it against Sam. He never guilted Sam for hav
ing to work two or more jobs to make ends meet. He'd made sure Sam had a great childhood, and he taught Sam how to stand on his own.

The only reason why Sam knew the things he did was because, well, some things just got a little too obvious as he got older. He started to realize why his dad was so tired on the few blessed days where he didn't have to work.

Those were pizza days sitting in front of the TV playing video games together.

For that, Sam felt a little guilty even right now. He didn't want to disappoint his father.

  "I promise, I'm fine."

His dad looked him right in the eyes. They were the same height, had been ever since Sam turned seventeen. "You sure this isn't something weird? Wolf shifters have been sniffing around you ever since you were a baby."

Sam pressed his lips together. He wasn't about to tell his dad about the hunter attack a couple of days ago. That was one thing he definitely didn't need to know about.

"When I got out of that factory, I was a mess, Dad. I was getting sick, too. Spending all that time in a damp room with other people…it wasn't good for me."

"That how you hurt your leg?"

So he'd noticed the limp. That had happened during the hunter raid, so Sam didn't see the need to give a little white lie to cover that up.

"Yeah, they were a little rough with us. But, Dad, I'm a lot better now than I was when I got out of there. The rumor about wolf souls and their mates is true. I can feel it every time Collin so much as holds my hand. It's a weird tingling feeling that spreads up my arm and down the rest of my body—"

"All right, I don't need to hear anything like that."

Sam tensed. "Not in a sexual way, Dad. It's just…refreshing. It feels like every nerve in my body is working overtime to help me recover. I had a hard cold for maybe one day, and then it was gone."

  "Twenty-four-hour flus aren't that uncommon."

Sam could tell this wasn't something his dad was going to be able to easily accept. It was getting through to him even now, but the sound of his voice alone was enough to let Sam know he was being stubborn.

"Dad, it's okay. I want to stay here."

"You can still come and stay with me. That offer is always on the table."

And Sam knew it, which was why his chest suddenly ached. "I know."

Sam and his dad hung out for rest of the day. Eventually Collin came back around, but he didn't get close enough for there to be any issues.

Sam wondered if this was something to do with having another male around. Was Collin unable to handle having another man near his mate? Even if that male was Sam's father?

Sam hoped that wasn't it. This was his father he was thinking about. There shouldn't be anything for him to be jealous over.

The only other possible explanation was that Collin's inner wolf was reacting to the constant challenge Sam's dad was giving off.

And maybe that desire was so strong that even having a wolf soul for a mate wasn't enough to stop him from wanting to act on it.

A wolf soul like Sam was supposed to prevent his mate's inner wolf from going insane like that, but sometimes there was only so much that could be done.

At least, that was what Sam was slowly starting to learn.

His dad stayed for dinner. Collin ate alone on his porch while Sam sat with his dad at a picnic table with Maxwell and Noah.

His dad seemed pleased to meet Noah, knowing they'd been through a similar experience and had helped push each other along when things were starting to get a little more hopeless.

Though even Maxwell wasn't safe from the suspicious glances that came with his dad being here, surrounded by wolf shifters.

It was nearly sunset by the time his dad thought it was time to head off. Even then, he hesitated, and Sam ended up talking with his dad for another half an hour outside of his truck.

He didn't want to bring over any of Sam's things from his apartment. He seemed to think Sam should keep his apartment in case he suddenly needed a place to go, and he offered for a fifth time his own place should Sam need it.

Sam loved his dad, and he was confident that if he was in real trouble around here he would be able to handle it just because of that offer.

The no-questions-asked approach that came with his dad on absolutely everything had saved Sam some embarrassing times as a kid, and as an adult, he appreciated them more than anything.

As his father drove off, a heavy stone settled in Sam's stomach. He couldn't explain it. He wanted to go after his dad and hug him one more time, thank him for being such a good dad.

Sam pulled out his phone to send him that very text, but then he stopped himself.

If he sent a text like that right now, then it would just encourage his dad to turn around and come back, and he needed to understand this was a choice Sam was making. A choice he was still getting used to, but that was his all the same.

Collin stepped up behind him when the truck was out of sight, but he wasn't in his human shape.

He was in his wolf shape. A giant, bear-sized wolf with gold-brown fur.

Sam tensed when those golden eyes suddenly looked at him, but then he relaxed, noting that there was no hint of danger within that look.

Collin was in his wolf shape, but he had control.

Well, as much control as a wolf could have.

"Were you really struggling that hard to hold it back?"

The wolf looked away from him, growling a little.

Sam couldn't help but smile. "He's my dad. He wants the best for me."

The wolf growled again. Sam sighed.

"Is this really something I'm going to have to worry about with you? I don't want you to get jealous over my dad. I don't even know if…"

Sam trailed off, not sure what he should say. Usually whenever that happened, it meant there was good chance he was about to say something he would regret.

Best he not say anything. He didn't want to say anything that would hurt Collin. Not after everything the man had done for him.

Sam glanced at the wolf from the corner of his eye.

He could still remember the terror of getting his ass kicked by hunters who wanted to take him back to that hole in the ground. Either to kill him or sell him to other wolf shifters who thought being near him would help them control their inner wolves.

He still didn't know what they wanted to do to him, but he didn't care either.

Things only got better when the fists stopped raining down on his head, and then Sam was able to look up and see the huge wolf attacking the people who had been trying to steal him away.

Collin had done that. He'd stood over Sam's body, looking nothing then like he did now.

That was why Collin wasn't afraid of him. Even in his wolf shape, Collin was just standing here. He wasn't doing anything, just looking off in the distance, as though he were thinking about something important.

Collin from a few nights ago had been a monster. Hackles raised, tail puffed out as though he were getting ready to kill someone…

And his teeth. Those had been the most terrifying thing of all.

But even with little to no strength in his body, Sam had wanted to touch him. So he reached out, letting his fingers slip against the fur of one of Collin's paws.

And he'd felt immediately better, stronger.

At the time, he knew Collin felt stronger, too, and he needed that strength to fight against numerous humans and wolf shifters with weapons.

He did. He fought them off and carried Sam back home as though he were something precious.

Never in his life had Sam thought he would care about anything like that, about someone treating him as though he were fragile.

But that wasn't entirely it either. He didn't know how to describe it.

  "Collin?"

Another growl. Sam didn't know if he was talking to the wolf or the person.

"I want to thank you for what you did for me and for letting me stay here. I want…I don't know entirely what I want, but I don't want to leav
e. If that's all right with you, then I'd be willing…to give this mating thing a chance. Is that okay?"

Sam knew a few things about shifters, but what he didn't know could fit into multiple barns, so it seemed safe to ask.

Until the wolf suddenly turned to look at him and Sam saw a little less of the man he'd had meals with over the last couple of days, less of the person who told him he loved him and wanted to mate with him, and more of a wild animal.

  Shit.

Sam backed off. "Uh, we can talk later…when you get more control over yourself if you want. I'll just…uh, go back to the house and wait for you."

He turned and started briskly walking, trying not to look as though he were having a mild panic about it as he went.

Weren't wolves supposed to have more control when their wolf souls were around? What the hell was this about?

Sam glanced behind him, noting that Collin was following him, his head slightly lowered, as though he were coming after prey.

  Shit. Fuck!

Sam ran, and that seemed to be a big mistake because then the wolf chased after him.

  “Holy shit! Collin!”

All his fears about eaten alive were about to come true. He was going to die! He was so going to die!

The snout of the giant wolf pushed between Sam’s legs before Collin lifted his head hard and fast. Collin screamed as he was suddenly launched into the air, but he didn’t stay up there for long.

He landed on the wolf’s back, as though the wolf knew what it was doing, knew what Sam would do, and it made a hard turn into the woods.

Sam clutched the fur with white knuckles, screaming as he was taking deep into the woods by his own mate.

  Chapter Two

Sam had no idea where they were going, and he wasn't sure how much he should be worried about that either.

He couldn't let go of Collin's fur, though. He didn't want to fall to the side and die. He didn't want his head to smash into a tree or be impaled by a branch.
